Past Successes

We developed a local self help, peer support model that develops parent support groups in different locations across Scotland.  A Professional Advisory Group was set up which included some of the key professionals involved in speech and language across Scotland and beyond. We have built meaningful strategic partnerships with the Scottish Government, Local Authorities, Third Sector and professional and voluntary agencies.

We developed a user-led strategy through listening to parents  and responded by providing a range of local services to address their needs and aspirations. Our service model is based on self efficacy: that is to support and enable people to do more by helping themselves, which in turn helps transform lives within families and wider communities. By empowering and training people to become more effective advocates for themselves and their children we help create networks and relationships with local authorities, service providers, local networks and within families and between individuals.  This helped to grow people and community assets and enhanced social outcomes – people developed skills to help them engage with local decision-makers and services that affect them.

We developed a youth club, parent and child groups, delivered summer schools and workshops, worked with a range of agencies and professionals and practitioners to help up-skill families. Our social pedagogy based 1:1 coaching support extended a bridge particularly for young children benefiting from early intervention whilst waiting for assessments or needing further help. Many of whom were discharged from statutory services or on waiting lists.

We have invested in our online presence and promoted this as the front door for our services. We were responsive to trends and feedback of how our users wish to engage with us and our extended outreach resulted in over 400% increase in contacts from parent carers and agencies seeking support, knowledge and training over the last 4 years. We also developed the first phase of our innovative e-learning resources, so that busy parents could build knowledge and skills at their leisure. Our model for learning embedded evidence based psychological approaches to aid critical reflection as a feature.
