Stage 4: Support for Parents

Step 6: Emotional Release on a Budget

Click on each object below for some ideas of home-play on a budget.

  • Pound Shops have lots of cheap pens, crayons, paint and paper to cut up and draw on. Allow kids to scribble out their feelings that they don’t have the words for.

  • Find objects that are solid and not expensive and allow them to bang on them, e.g. Pots and pans with wooden spoons.

  • Charity shops have lots of cheap books that you can read books together, or give them time to play with books themselves.

  • Give them quiet time to do what they want, but also take part in a craft or music game too.
